SHOPPERS in Burnley and Pendle have been dramatically shown how drink-driving can cause carnage.
As part of their Christmas anti-drink-drive campaign, traffic police displayed a Nissan Sunny, previously involved in a smash, in St James' Street, Burnley, and at Asda, Colne.
Sergeant Martin Bishop said officers had stopped and breathalysed 300 people since the launch of the festive campaign earlier this month.
He added a "significant" number of people had been arrested and all officers would be increasing patrols as well as staging fixed roadside stops.
Sgt Bishop said: "We are utilising it to pass on the message, don't drink and drive.
"This is damage caused by a crash and you could kill someone or yourself.
"Obviously we are continuing to do the campaign, in particular this week, and we will be carrying out extra patrols and static stop sites.
"We do not want to be knocking on someone's door telling them a loved one is dead because of drink-driving, especially at Christmas."
