Blackpool 29 Carnforth 24: Blackpool started the game with all guns firing and took the lead through an unconverted try from centre Trevor Smith. After another five minutes Blackpool were back among the points.

After a good three quarters move from a ruck winger Richard Jackson scored for full back Dave Minnikin to convert to take the lead to 12 - 0 in the home side's favour.

Carnforth applied pressure to the home defence. This paid dividends when their centre burst through a stretched Blackpool defence to score a converted try to peg the score back to 12 - 7. Carnforth continued to attack.

Blackpool started the second half with more determination than they had when they finished the first and began again to pressurise the visitors.

The game entered its final phase with both sides vying for victory and, fortunately it came Blackpool's way when substitute John Carroll, playing again for the 1st XV after being out for almost a year scored wide out on the left to put the home side into a final lead of 29 - 24.
