CHORLEY boxer Michael Jennings has been forced to cancel Christmas in preparation for the second defence of his British welterweight title.

The 28-year-old was hoping to put his feet up over the festive period.

But there is no time for rest after he was scheduled to face Young Mutley at the Nottingham Arena on January 28.

"I'll get Christmas Day off, because it's a Sunday, but I won't be going out or anything like that because I'm back in training now," he said.

"I wouldn't have minded the fight being a bit further after Christmas then I could have had some time off, but it's one of those things and I just have to get on with it.

"I want to make sure I'm on my guard because Muttley is pretty good. He's got a decent record, has stopped quite a few and he's a bit of a puncher.

"I don't want to be getting caught with any silly shots like I did last time."

Jennings admitted he was determined to learn from his mistakes after being disappointed with aspects of his performance during his last bout against Bradley Pryce, despite a unanimous points victory over the Welshman.

"I've watched a video of the fight and hopefully I can iron my mistakes out," he said.

"I've been working on moving my head more and making sure I keep my hands up."

The former Holy Cross pupil added that he had no qualms about fighting away from the North West.

"It's a big bill with Amir Khan on it, and it will probably be on ITV1 so hopefully I'll get a good win and they will show my fight," he said.

"The exposure is good because it gets more people interested and hopefully next time I box at Preston Guild Hall I'll be able to sell more tickets and be top of the bill.

"That's what I'm aiming for."
