TWO drunken teenagers who left a man seriously injured after a late-night street mugging have been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Luke Haworth and Luke Freeston, both 19, left victim Anthony Smith with smashed ribs, a broken jaw and a broken arm after the attack in Gatty Park, Accrington, in April.

They stole the 43-year-old Blackburn man's mobile phone and £13 in cash.

Speaking after the attack Mr Smith, of Burnley Road, said the pair, who admitted robbery at Burnley Crown Court, were "animals" who had left him for dead.

He had asked them for directions to a taxi rank after becoming separated from his friends in La De Dar's Club Willow Street, Accrington, in the early hours.

They said he could follow them, but they led him to the park, off Hyndburn Road, and attacked him.

He woke up in the park at around 4.30am and made his way to Hyndburn fire station from where the police were called.

Mr Smith, who works in the warehouse at Wardley Stores, today said his attackers got what they deserved.

He said: "They attacked me for a mobile phone and £13.

"Had it been a colder night I might have died lying in that park."

Haworth, of Duckworth Hill Lane, Oswaldtwistle, and Freeston, of Church Street, Accrington, both said their actions had not been planned, but had been fuelled by alcohol.
