CHAMPIONSHIP new boys Wade Elliott and John Spicer have told Burnley fans: You ain't seen the best of us yet!

The former Bournemouth duo have handled the step up from League One in confident fashion to help the Clarets steadily climb the table in recent weeks.

In the last two games alone, Elliott's late winner against Millwall earned a valuable three points while Spicer's two assists at Luton, followed by a spell as emergency keeper, contributed to a sixth win in eight league games.

And both players now feel as though they are close to finding the consistency that can keep the Clarets up among the play-off chasers.

"Consistency has been my biggest problem," admitted Spicer. "You have to play well every week or you get found out and the Burnley fans haven't seen the best of me yet by a long way.

"It's been a little tough to get that consistency," agreed Elliott. "Winning games can buy you a bit of time and I would imagine if we weren't getting results we might be the first players fans were looking at because we have stepped up.

"Garreth O'Connor has started like a house on fire, but John came later than both of us and has perhaps been unlucky in the tactical changes we've had to make in the last three games, but I know he will do well."

Elliott's own progress has been hampered by a niggling ankle injury that forced him to sit out nine games in two spells.

But with six successive starts now behind him, he believes the season starts here.

"I had a dodgy start with my ankle and I've been grateful the games have come thick and fast in the past few weeks because being out meant I lost a bit of sharpness," explained the winger.

"That's coming back now, although I have to admit it's still snatches of what I can do at the minute.

"I have to find a level I can sustain all the time and that's not easy.

"I was under no illusions when I came to Burnley that every game would be a new challenge and I feel I've had to fight for every little bit of play.

"The ankle injury hasn't helped and I was getting frustrated, but in the past four games I've felt fitter and sharper in each one, so I'll keep plugging away and with the improved fitness I'll get used to the pace of the games and get better.

"There is definitely more to come. One of the reasons Garreth and I chose Burnley last summer was that we felt we could improve as players and I am sure that will be the case. It's still early days and hopefully we can have a big impact over the rest of this and the coming seasons."
