ADRIAN Dugdale likes to see youngsters playing great golf.

But even the Pleasington junior organiser felt a little envious when 10-year-old Will Rushworth achieved something Adrian has been trying to do for decades.

"I've played here for 35 years and still haven't managed an ace," said Adrian after seeing Will score a hole-in-one.

It was during a junior invitation event at Pleasington on Sunday, when the 22-handicapper hit his wonder shot.

It came on the 152-yard par three 10th, as his tee shot hit the green, bounced three times and vanished down the hole.

Junior committee member Mike Dunn said: "People can go 50 years of playing golf without getting one so for somebody who's only been playing for one year to get one is brilliant.

"I've only had one in 40 years but I hadn't even started playing when I was 10."

Will plays at Pannal in Harrogate but has strong family connections to Pleasington.

When he made his hole-in-one he was partnering his cousin, Edward, who is a promising junior golfer at Pleasington himself.

Will's uncle David was captain of Pleasington Golf Club in 2003, and his father Bob is also well known in East Lancashire golfing circles.

There was another bonus waiting for WiIl when he returned to the clubhouse - being 10 years old he didn't even have to take part in the tradition of buying everyone a drink at the 19th hole!
