British welterweight champion Michael Jennings says preparations for his first defence of the title are going smoothly.

The 27-year-old 'Chorley Lurcher' takes on Welsh challenger Bradley Pryce at Preston Guild Hall next Tuesday.

The fight will be televised live on ITV and has the potential to be a classic domestic dust-up as both fighters possess an all-action style.

Jennings said: "Everything has gone well in training and I'm ready to step into the ring and get the job done.

"I expect Bradley to come out on the front foot from the first bell.

"I've heard he is mouthing off that he's going to knock me out before the sixth. We'll have to see about that!

"I'm ready for him and I'm going to give my supporters from Chorley a good showing down in Preston."

Bradley Pryce, 24, the current Welsh champion, recently ended the unbeaten records of rising Russian stars Sergei Stepkin and Ivan Kirpa.

Jennings took time out from his preparations to visit children at the Boundary Primary School in Blackpool and give them boxing lessons.

The school is looking at sport to improve health, fitness and self-esteem and has identified boxing as an ideal vehicle to achieve this through Jennings.

He said: "It was a nice break from the training and all the kids were keen to pick up some skills."
