Injury-hit Chorley crashed out of the FA Trophy at the first hurdle for the eighth successive season, their hopes virtually extinguished in the opening minutes by Premier Division Guiseley.

The Magpies' destroyer was the talented wideman Roy Stamer, a recent signing from Farsely Celtic, who set up two goals in the first eight minutes.

After four minutes Stamer cut inside and had a strong shot parried by keeper Horridge, experienced striker Simon Parke firing home the loose ball.

Four minutes later, Stamer again created the opening for Jeremy Illingworth to score at the second attempt through a ruck of players.

Chorley began the second half very positively and deservedly reduced the arrears on 55 minutes with a fine strike by Peter Wright.

But any hopes that the Magpies would go on to rescue the tie were dashed on the hour when indecisive defending left Cooke time and room to squeeze a shot past Horridge.

Final score: Guiseley 3 Chorley 1
