A HAUL of cannabis plants was found by police after a raid on a house in Burnley.

Officers were called to the house in Linby Street and discovered more than 30 plants in an upstairs bedroom, along with hydroponic equipment for growing cannabis.

Hydroponics is a system of sophisticated lighting and irrigation which creates a tropical environment needed to boost plant growth.

Police were alerted after a utility company went to the property on Tuesday to cut off the electricity supply, broke in and discovered the drugs 'factory'.

PC Ryan Van Delft, of Burnley police, said: "After we were called to the house we found the plants and equipment in an upstairs bedroom, which had been converted into a factory.

"We are looking for the occupant of the property so we can speak to him about what was found in the house.

"We would appeal for anyone who may know who, or where, he is to get in touch."

Last month police found a cannabis 'factory' at Hampden Mill, in Darwen, and around 600 cannabis plants.

Officers swooped on the former mill, in Grimshaw Street, and found three rooms full of seedlings and larger plants, along with professional heating and lighting equipment.

Leslie English, of Greater Manchester, was arrested at the scene and later pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis and handling stolen vehicles.

A second man, 38-year-old Chris Rowbottom, of Todmorden, also pleaded guilty to the same offences.

They will both return to court for sentencing in December.

Last year police found 400 plants at a former plumbers' merchants in Whalley Road, Clayton le Moors.
