INDIE survivors The Bluetones have notched up a whole slew of hit singles and albums over the past decade. More impressively, they've done so despite not talking to the national press this century. See the underground phenomenon in Preston on October 30.

The band - Mark Morriss (voice/guitar), Eds Chesters (drums), Adam Devlin (lead guitar) and Scott Morriss (bass/backing vocals) - shot to fame during the Britpop bubble.

Debut album Expecting To Fly hit number one, while single Slight Return was only prevented from doing the same by Babylon Zoo's Spaceman.

When Britpop crashed to an end, The Bluetones were expected to follow suit - but the band and their loyal army of fans had different ideas.

Two more top ten albums - Return To The Last Chance Saloon in 1998 and Science And Nature in 2000 - have followed, together with a greatest hits LP gathering together hits like Are You Blue Or Are You Blind?, Bluetonic and Cut Some Rug.

With new material on the way together with a big tour, it looks like the reports of The Bluetones' demise were greatly exaggerated.

The Bluetones play 53 Degrees in Preston on Sunday, October 30. Tickets are £12.50.
