WOODLEY Sports deservedly took their place in the next round of this season's FA Trophy with a comfortable victory at Dark Lane.

They may have only won by a single goal, but Dale keeper Andrew Robertson kept his side in the game with a string of excellent saves.

Robertson had already denied the impressive Mario-Sergio Daniel twice and produced a cracking reflex save to stop Chris Curley's volley before being forced off the field after dislocating a finger.

He returned following running repairs, but he had little chance on the half hour when Chris Young hammered as fierce shot past the keeper from the edge of the box.

Only then did Dale threaten to get into the game. David Eatock should have done better when put through from a quick throw in but he pulled his shot wide and Jordan Rispin was unlucky at the back post, the ball hitting the sided netting after Jamie Baguley's free kick had deceived Woodley keeper Liam Higginbotham.

Dale had far more possession after the break, but as in the past, they failed to create much with it. All to often play broke down on the edge of the box, or the final ball was poor allowing Liam Dickenson and Mike Lomax to clear any danger with little trouble.
