CHORLEY band Starsailor are back with their third album On The Outside, released on October 17, and to celebrating they are playing a special free show in Preston on October 21.

The melodic indie quartet will be at Action Records to play an acoustic set at 5pm and then sign copies of their new album - even though frontman James Walsh used to work for rival music shop HMV in the city.

On The Outside was recorded in LA with producer Rob Schnapf. who has previously worked with Beck, The Vines and Elliott Smith.

It is said to be less introspective than their two previous albums - 2001's Love Is Here and 2003's Silence Is Easy - which both reached number two in the charts.

After the Preston show, Starsailor head out on a 15-date UK tour that comes to the north west twice - Liverpool and Manchester.

Starsailor play Action Records in Preston on Friday, October 21. Admission is free.
