BLACKBURN United finally beat bogey team St Matthews to maintain their perfect start to the season.

United made it six wins out of six thanks to two goals from Shakeel Butt and further strikes from Khalim Hafeji and Javid Master.

Despite their fine start to the season, United went in to the game with some trepidation having lost their last couple of matches against St Matthews.

But with the understrength Saints having to field a makeshift keeper and United making an early breakthrough those nerves were soon settled.

And it was the impressive Hafeji who made the breakthrough when the classy centre back drilled the ball home from the edge of the area after Abdul Logde's shot from close range was blocked on the line.

The scoreline was doubled soon after when the pacy Butt broke free down the right and beat the helpless Gary Stansfield with a cross-cum-shot that sailed in to the top corner.

St Matts created chances of their own and the rampaging Paul Coote was causing all sorts of problems. But their best chance fell to Paul Preston who caught Sohail Master in pocession, raced clear only to see his firm shot well saved by Yasser Patel. The keeper was then forced to keep out an effort from Coote who raced on to a Carl Vause flick on.

Blackburn United put together the move of the match just before the break when the evergreen Ilyas Mohammed burst out of defence only for Master to pull his shot just wide.

But United went 3-0 up early in the second half and again it was Butt's pace that caused the problems -- skipping past two defenders before dispatching the coolest of finishes. The points were secured midway through the half when St Matts substitute, Lee Jones, was robbed by Master and the fleet-footed striker raced clear to tuck the ball home.

Although victory was now secure, St Matts did not stop battling and Matt Coote, showed great strength to hold off his marker before firing in to the side netting. Matt Martindale then forced Patel in to a rare save.

Jones and Logde were booked as tempers threatened to boil over before Jones nearly made amends with a superb curling free kick that Patel did well to tip over.

It proved to be the last real action of the match and, has tempers simmered, the ref made the right decision to blow early and United could finally celebrate victory over their hoodoo side.
