ENGLAND rookie Richard Chaplow heads back to Turf Moor tomorrow insisting he has no regrets about leaving Burnley

The former Clarets midfielder makes his return alongside Gary Cahill in the U20 squad facing Holland in an international friendly (2.30pm kick off).

And while he admits to frustration at seeing his first team opportunities limited to just six starts since joining West Bromwich Albion for £1.5million in January, Chaplow admits he is looking forward to his first return to the club he supported as a boy.

"I'm enjoying it down at West Brom, even if I'm not playing football as often as I would like," admitted the 20-year-old, who recently bought an apartment in Rawtenstall to allow for frequent visits 'home'.

"I've been on the bench pretty much every week and I've still only started two games for Albion this season.

"It has been a little bit frustrating, but it is Premier League football at the end of the day and the competition is so fierce.

"I don't feel like I'm out of my league and I feel I have held my own whenever I've played.

"Of course it helps that the likes of Stan Ternent and Steve Cotterill had belief in me and gave me the platform to step up a grade. In the end, I feel I left Burnley on the best of terms and being a lifelong fan of the club and the place where you grew up, leaving was hard.

"It was just something I felt I had to do. I suppose at some point you have to take a risk rather than stay at one club all your life and West Brom were the ones who made a move. Now it's just a case of playing the waiting game."

Chaplow's place in the U20s midfield is pretty much assured at Turf Moor. And with one eye on the U21 scene, he hopes to impress Clarets fans who will doubtless turn up to see the Accrington-born midfielder and former Aston Villa loan signing Gary Cahill.

Chaplow added: "It will be fantastic to go back to Burnley with England. I had expected to return playing for the opposition and perhaps getting a mixed reception, so it's great to get an England call-up for a game at Turf Moor.

"I couldn't believe it when the Albion secretary told me where the game was and I thought it was a wind-up until they convinced me it was genuine.

"I spoke to Gary about the game and we both laughed at the irony.

We are room mates with England so we'll have plenty of time to talk about Burnley before tomorrow."

He added: "The U21s has to be the aim for both of us now. It's more performances for your club that get you recognition at U21 level and it's hard to break through.

"But obviously I am hoping to get the nod eventually. A few of the lads will soon be too old and that should open the door for Peter Taylor to bring in some more players."

l Tickets for the game, costing £3 for adults (£5 on the day of the game) and £1 for under 16s and OAPs, can still be bought by calling 0870 443 1914.

A family ticket for two adults and two concessions costs just £5.
