A BAND of professional singers are aiming to give Lancaster people 'A Night 2 Remember' in just over a week's time.

The musicians led by opera singer Sylvia Mitton will star at a concert in aid of CancerCare. at The Ashton Hall on October 15.

It has been organised by Sylvia and her friend Jill Parkinson, childhood mates who have shared many experiences during their lives.

They have run occasional concerts in support of CancerCare in the area for the last five years - ever since Jill was diagnosed with a neuro-endocrine tumour, a rare form of life-threatening cancer, but this is their biggest event yet.

It is the first time the pair have booked Lancaster's historic Ashton Hall and they are also hoping to raise more money for the charity than ever before by selling a massive 600 tickets.

"When I was diagnosed with cancer in the autumn of 2000 I had to come to terms with it both emotionally and physic-ally. CancerCare played a major role in my life then and their care, help and advice is always available," says Jill.

"The concerts allow me to give something back to them."

Professionals backing the concert are Sylvia Mitton, Alison Shepherd, Jane Lambert and Adrian Moore, who will be joined on stage by Heysham Operatic Society light baritone John Atkinson, singer guitarist Alan Lapworth, Morecambe parish church head chorister Emily Schofield and the 80-voice Lancaster and District Choral Society conducted by John Perrin.

Morecambe Youth Band under the leadership of Jeff Cunninghamwill provide musical accompaniment to the singers who have been rehearsing since the beginning of August for the big night out which will start at 7pm next Saturday, October 15.

The concert is being sponsored by CLB Coopers, chartered accountants, of Lancaster.

Tickets are now available at £7.50 each from CancerCare on 01524-381820 or directly from Jill Parkinson on 01524-425295
