Chorley are still looking for their first home league win of the season after a frustrating afternoon for Magpies supporters at Victory Park.

The one bright spot was the sparkling debut of Tony Sullivan, operating wide on the right, who was a constant threat.

Goole made the more positive start but when the Magpies finally got going, keeper Chris Hill saved well from a Gary Martindale blockbuster.

As a generally quiet first half ended, Goole's Gary Shaw seemed to have won a penalty when challenged by keeper Paul Horridge but to the home fans' relief the referee chose instead to book the striker for diving.

However, Goole did win the verdict on the hour when Horridge hesitated in coming out to gather a free kick and in the ensuing goalmouth confusion the keeper was adjudged to have upended a Goole forward near the byline.

It looked a harsh decision but Shaw stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick.

The Magpies promptly raised their game but couldn't get the crucial leveller.

Final score: Chorley 0 Goole 1
