A DARWEN teenager's work could soon be seen across the world after he was asked to make a music video for Manchester band I Am Kloot.

Student Rik Nicholson, 16, of Belgrave Road, won several awards last year for his filmmaking and has shown his work in festivals in Toronto, Prague and Barcelona.

But it was his success at last year's Co-operative Young Film-Makers Festival in Bradford which led to him working with I Am Kloot, who have performed across Europe and America.

The band, who recently performed at the V Festival 2005 and Glastonbury, gave Rik the go-ahead to design and create a video for them.

It is likely to be used for a future single, after being given the title, This House Is Haunted, and the lyrics to base it on.

It will also be featured in the Exposures Student Film Festival at the Cornerhouse, Manchester, in December.

Rik said: "It is great because I Am Kloot are a band I like. I mentioned I'd like to do a video for them and the organiser of the young filmmakers festival came back to say I could.

"The point is to have as little contact as possible with the band and to design the video as I think it should be done and then see if they like it. I have an idea of what they would like.

"Hopefully they will come to the Cornerhouse to see it so I will get to meet them."

The video is still at the planning stage but a separate film, which Rik began last year, will also get an airing next week at the 2005 Co-operative Young Film-Makers Festival in Bradford.

The film, R Splet - the name of the main character - will be screened on October 14 at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

Rik's entry was one of only 100 chosen from 360 productions entered.

The former Darwen Moorland pupil is studying a BTec national diploma in media at Blackburn College.
