BURNLEY FC Girls Under 14s turned on the style in front of the watching England goalkeeper, Rachel Brown, to beat arch-rivals Rovers.

The Burnley-born shot-stopper was among the spectators at Queens Park to watch the Clarets run riot -- with Ella MacDermid scoring five of them.

Brown, who keeps goal for Everton, could not have failed to be impressed by Burnley and MacDermid in particular who bagged a first half hat-trick.

Rovers went in to the clash riding high in third place but the newly formed and depleted side were soon under the cosh.

And it was MacDermid who opened the scoring after just five minutes, racing on to a through ball and sending the keeper the wrong way.

Burnley were soon 2-0 up when Justine Lorriman broke free down the right, cut inside the full back and slotted the ball home.

Rovers created a few chances themselves, including several corners, but they came up against a stubborn Burnley defence.

And Burnley went further ahead when Lorriman's cross from the right was tucked away by Rebekha Davies.

Number four arrived soon after when Abbie Hutchinson released Ainsley Strickland and the midfielder powered the ball home.

MacDermid then completed her hat-trick with two goals before the break.

One again, she broke the off-side trap and, with only the keeper to beat, cooly drilled the ball home.

Her third goal came courtesy of Davies whose left wing cross was despatched from close range.

While Blackburn failed to contain Burnley's pacey attack in the first half, they battled back well after the break and goals were harder to come by for the home side.

However, Burnley still managed to score three more times and, inevitably, it was MacDermid who made the breakthrough.

Strickland was the provider, threading the ball through for MacDermid to supply the finishing touch.

Blackburn's spirited second half display deserved a goal and they finally scored what was no more than a consolation.

But the last word had to go to MacDermid who showed her striker's instinct to be in the right place at the right time to score with the simplest of tap-ins.

More performances like that and Brown may well be having a word with England manager, Hope Powell.
