A MAN'S bid to register the name 'Fook' as a brand name for use on clothing has failed.
A leading trademarks judge has ruled that its sound-alike 'f-word' still has the power to cause outrage amongst the British public.
Judge David Kitchin QC rejected claims by Mr Kevin Scranage, of Market Street, Edenfield, that plays on words such as French Connections popular 'FCUK' brand and the hit film 'Meet the Fockers' had watered down the f-word's impact.
Although it may be used commonly, Judge Kitchin said: "It is, nevertheless, a swear word and deeply offensive and insulting to many people. It is likely to cause justifiable outrage amongst a significant section of the public."
