NURSERY owner Susan Duxberry found her husband Mark hanged in their garden centre at Reedley, an inquest was told.

Mr Duxberry, 33, of Reedley Nurseries, Robinson Lane, was depressed over the failure of his demolition business.

He was found by his wife hanging from a crossbar over the path leading through the centre of the nursery. Mrs Duxberry said she went to look for her husband on Monday morning after receiving a telephone call saying he had not arrived at work at Colne.

She said Mr Duxberry had been devastated following the failure of his businesses, DW Demolition, and that a creditors' meeting was due to be held in Blackburn two days after his death.

She said her husband had been receiving medical treatment for depression and they thought he was getting better.

PC Peter Bartnik said he arrived to find Mr Duxberry hanging from the beam with a blue nylon strap around his neck. A knocked over chair was lying nearby.

PC Bartnik was thanked by Mr Duxberry's mother who said it must have been an ordeal for him to find her son like that.

Recording a verdict that Mr Duxberry killed himself while depressed, East Lancashire Coroner, David Smith, said it was obvious that he intended to do so and that there was no-one else involved.
