BURNLEY received a gigantic double tonic today before tomorrow's important Second Division clash against Wycombe Wanderers at Turf Moor.

Defender Peter Swan looks certain to make a return to first team action following a troublesome Achilles tendon injury.

While skipper Jamie Hoyland will step up his recovery from cartilage surgery with a run-out in either the A or B team tomorrow morning.

The two influential Burnley stars have made tremendous strides in their battle for full fitness this week after both experienced heads were injured against Hull City on September 16.

"Jamie Hoyland and Peter Swan have trained fully this week and they are way ahead of schedule," said Burnley physio Andy Jones. "They are running very well and are both in good condition. However it is important that we don't push them back too early or a reaction could set them back a couple of weeks again."

Tomorrow is the first ever league meeting between the two sides and Burnley are without the suspended Gerry Harrison. He is serving a one game ban for his red card at Chesterfield.

Meanwhile, Alan Smith is plotting another Turf Moor shock 20 years after masterminding one of the soccer hits of all time.

The Wycombe Wanderers boss was a coach at non-league Wimbledon when the Southern League side stunned Burnley with an amazing 1-0 FA Cup third round victory at Turf Moor in January 1975.

"I can still remember that amazing day at Turf Moor and it was a match which will always be etched on my memory," said Smith.

"Burnley were going well in the top half of the First Division and we were a non-league side.

"It was one of the shock results of all time and a truly incredible day." "Like Wimbledon in 1975, we are different ends of the soccer spectrum to Burnley, although this time we are competing in the same league.

"The scheme of things says that Wycombe shouldn't be playing a club like Burnley. In terms of tradition there is no contest.

"But here we are competing on the same field. That is the attraction of football and why so many people love the game.

Added the former Crystal Palace boss: "I am a great lover of football tradition and have always been a great admirer of everything Burnley.

"I've always had a soft spot for them and followed Burnley on and off since that FA Cup tie with Wimbledon."
