A CAR carrying a woman and three children was involved in an accident which blocked the main road through Barrowford this morning.

They were travelling in a blue Citreon AX which had just pulled out of Park Street when it was in collision with a red F-reg Vauxhall Cavalier being driven by a young woman.

The force of the impact flung the Citreon onto the pavement.

A number of people were taken to Burnley General Hospital but there were no details of their injuries.

The accident happened at 9am on the A682 Gisburn Road outside Susan Rawlinson's home.

Mrs Rawlinson said: "I was upstairs in the bedroom when I heard the crash. I went outside to the blue car and tried to get the driver's door open but it was stuck.

"The woman driver was obviously hurt. Her head was reeling and she was mumbling. There were three children in the back seat and they were upset.

"I went back inside and called the police."
