BURNLEY'S lethal weapon Kurt Nogan is in line to win his first full international cap for Wales against Germany on Wednesday.

The Clarets striker was drafted into Bobby Gould's senior squad last night following injuries to three key Welsh players.

Nogan, 25, is Burnley's top scorer and previously uncapped and becomes Burnley's first international since 1984 when Billy Hamilton was capped for Northern Ireland in matches against England, Wales and Finland.

Nogan had represented Wales at under-21 level before his £300,000 record transfer from Brighton to Turf Moor.

But the Wales call-up is a major honour for Cardiff-born Nogan and Burnley.

It also makes it a family double for Nogan whose brother Lee, who plays for Reading, has turned out for Wales.

"I am really thrilled and the news is just sinking in. It is a total shock." said Nogan.

"It is a great honour for me and I am very proud."

New Wales manager Bobby Gould ran the rule over Nogan in Burnley's 1-0 defeat against Bristol Rovers at Twerton Park in August.

"I did not play well that night but obviously I was in his thoughts," added Kurt.

"I'm not expecting to start the game. But you never know do you? I might get half an hour or a run on as substitute."

Gould called on Nogan after being hit by the withdrawal of three of his most experienced players from the European Championship qualifier at the Cardiff Arms Park. Liverpool's Ian Rush, Chelsea striker Mark Hughes and Nottingham Forest midfielder Dave Phillips all played in the 1-0 win over Moldova - Gould's first game in charge.

But the absence of the trio, who have 190 caps and 42 international goals between them, has led Gould to call up four men - including the Burnley ace.

Nogan will join Gareth Taylor, who moved to Crystal Palace in a £1.6 million deal last week, Leicester's Iwan Roberts, and Birmingham's 22-year-old attacking midfielder Jason Bowen.

Gould said: "I am delighted to welcome Kurt on board.

"He has been scoring a lot of goals this season for Burnley and this is a big chance for him."

Nogan was due to link up with the Wales international squad after today's home game against Wycombe Wanderers at Turf Moor.
