A MAN was cut free from the wreckage of his car after a horrific head-on road crash today.
Firemen, helped by ambulance staff, used cutting equipment to free the man, who was trapped by his legs after his Ford Fiesta collided with an Audi.
The smash, which happened close to the Hargreaves Arms, Laneshawbridge, blocked the A6068 trans-Pennine road between Colne and Keighley for more than an hour.
The Fiesta driver, who lives in Addingham, suffered chest and facial injuries.
He was still conscious when he was taken to Airedale General Hospital, Steeton.
The Audi driver, who was travelling towards Yorkshire, managed to get out of his car before emergency crews arrived. He was taken to Burnley General Hospital with a neck injury.
None of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening.
David Bell, landlord of the Hargreaves Arms, said: "This is a very fast road. They come down here very quickly into the village.
"Council wagons have been here sweeping up debris from the road."
