BURNLEY march in to the Auto Windscreens Shield round two draw - but at a heavy price.

Because midfielder Gerry Harrison is rated very doubtful for Friday's big FA Cup first round tie against Walsall after injuring his back last night.

Burnley were held 1-1 by Third Division Chester but finish runners-up to group winners Rotherham United to qualify for the knockout stages.

But the draw means the Clarets will have to travel for the next stage of the competition.

However Harrison's injury was the real cause for concern today.

He was carried off mid-way through the first half and taken to hospital for a cautionary check-up.

And although Harrison later returned to Turf Moor, he said his back was "extremely sore and very painful."

And with just 48 hours to the FA Cup tie, this latest knock is a big concern to Mullen.

The Turf Moor chief is already denied the suspended Warren Joyce and likely to be without the services of on-loan Paul McDonald.

Premiership Southampton confirmed today they are 'unlikely' to give McDonald permission to play because they do not want him cup-tied.

Despite securing a place in tomorrow's second round draw, manager Jimmy Mullen was angry with the unimpressive result, watched by a meagre 3,225 crowd.

He said: "I was very disappointed with the performance and I made that quite plain to the players.

"They all showed their feelings towards each other afterwards and we thrashed out one or two things.

"But we have to earn the right to win games. We just didn't do enough out there against Chester." He added: "We were very ordinary and there was no sense of urgency about our play. "This is a competition we have every incentive to do well in, yet we were not hungry enough against Chester.

"We conceded a sloppy goal again, which was very similar to the third goal Notts County scored against us."

Turf Moor's leading scorer Kurt Nogan grabbed Burnley's all-important strike.

Mullen added:"My only concern is who will come up with the other goals.

"Kurt is going well but we need more people scoring."

Meanwhile, Adrian Heath is set to line up against his old club when Burnley Reserves take on Manchester City at Turf Moor tonight.

The Clarets are expecting their biggest Pontins League gate of the season with City likely to boast several star names with Premiership experience.

Goalkeeper Tony Coton, Michael Vonk, Alan Kernaghan, Gerry Creaney and Rae Ingram could all be involved.

Burnley's second string are going great guns. They have not lost since August and can currently boast a nine game unbeaten record.
