MANY people will remember, like me, that splendid rail service to Blackpool from Blackburn on Saturday evenings.
It left at about 5pm and returned about midnight and it cost four shillings (20p). What value!
And for another shilling we got admission to the Winter Gardens or the Palace next door. You could dance to top bands like Joe Loss and the Ted Heath Orchestras etc, so you didn't need to be well off to get a nice night out. I don't remember any trouble on those trips, either, and all for five bob.
