WELL DONE Hyndburn Council.

Only a few months ago we had to criticise the authority after a heartbroken young woman was told the writing on the headstone marking her stillborn son's grave had to be changed because it was the wrong shade of grey.

Council chiefs eventually backed down after the case was highlighted by this newspaper.

Now they are considering relaxing the strict regulations on headstones at Accrington's infant memorial garden.

A meeting tomorrow night will decide whether parents can have other features on headstones, though there are no plans to change the size and shape of the memorials.

And in another welcome move, regulations may also be redrafted to make them easier to understand.

We hope councillors agree to the new moves.

If they do, then it will be a refreshing case of a council listening to the wishes of the people who live in the area rather than rigidly sticking to policies which have become outdated.
