A TERRIFIED pensioner was asleep in bed when she was woken by intruders searching her bedroom.

One of the burglars put his hand over her mouth to stop her from shouting out.

The intruders also cut the phone wires to the house in Craven Street, Accrington, where they broke in at 4am on Friday.

Detective Inspector Jim Oldcorn, head of Accrington CID, today appealed for the public's help to catch the two men.

He said: "This was a very frightening experience for the victim, who is in her early seventies."

The burglars fled with almost £250 worth of television licence, electricity, telephone, gas and water stamps.

Both intruders were white.

One was about 6ft tall, about 20 years old and slim with short hair.

He was possibly wearing a denim jacket and a bob cap.

His accomplice was slightly smaller and dressed in dark clothing.

Anyone with any information can contact Accrington police on 382141.
