IN HER Panorama television interview, Princess Diana bared her soul, revealed her inner pain and exposed her human vulnerability.

Everything she said was told with naked sincerity by this very sincere person, who had suffered inwardly for years, with no real friends to help and console her.

She carried out her public engagements, visiting the sick, the disabled and the dying.

She gave them all the love she had in her heart, held their hands when they were dying, which endeared her to millions of people the world over.

She had no help from all the other Royals, but she did not condemn them.

As for her admission that she was in love with another man, that should be totally ignored by the millions of people who love her.

After all kings and queens going back hundreds of years have had their mistresses, and their lovers, with scores of unwanted children with not one eyebrow raised in disgust.

Now she wants nothing less than to be Britain's ambassador.

The Queen may fret, Prince Charles will despair, but there is nothing they can do.

Princess Diana has an army of people, 200 million of them, on her side and I hope she and her children have a happy and royal future for many years to come.
