HOW I agree with John Blunt (LET, December 13) over giving a good thrashing to young (or indeed any) offenders who use a knife as a cowardly weapon.

I think we all should use our voices and make a groundswell of public opinion and impress our MPs that we are fed up with pussyfooting around.

What is needed is action, not words.

When we had corporal punishment in this country, we could walk the streets in peace and safety.

We could pop to neighbours' houses without having to lock up, because everybody from eight to 80 used to respect the police, other people and their property.

So come on, all of you, write to your MP or to a newspaper and let's get something done!
