PASSERS-BY had better hope the leaves don't start falling from this tree come next autumn!

The 10ft high metal tree has been erected as part of a new look for Greenbank Business Park in Blackburn.

The tree, complete with steel panel leaves, has been designed and built by artist Peter Parkinson, who took part in a competition to win the commission.

The facelift for the site, which is being funded through the CIty Challenge programme, by also includes new paths and seating and extra lighting for the canal bank. The tree sculpture is the first of up to three planned for the park over the next 12 months.

"The artist has successfully combined the name of Greenbank and its landscaped environment with the use of modern materials and has created an attractive public art feature and image for the business park," said City Challenge chief executive Janet Bradbury.
