POLICE are investigating a road accident in Burnley last night which left a driver with serious leg injuries.

The accident happened in Todmorden Road, near Hufling Lane, around 8.30pm. A Ford Escort is believed to have been in collision with with a lorry parked at the side of the road. The lorry was pushed into another vehicle parked in front of it.

The Escort driver, who has not been named by police, was taken to Burnley General Hospital where his injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

The fire brigade were called to the scene after fears the driver was trapped but he had been taken out of the car by the time the crew arrived.

A motorcyclist suffered grazes to his right arm and leg after a road accident in Colne Road, Burnley, yesterday.

Terry Dwyer, 44, of Durham Avenue, Burnley, was pulling away from the kerb on his motorbike when he was in collision with a Ford Escort van which was trying to park. Mr Dwyer was taken to Burnley General Hospital and released after treatment. The van driver, Michael McPike, 41, of Atherton, Manchester, was unhurt.

The accident happened near the junction with Murray Street.
