WHAT'S IN a name? The answer could be quite a lot if that name happens to be Lisa Moorish.

The young singer releases her new single Mr Friday Night on Monday and that is likely to mean we'll be seeing a lot more of her.

Pulp, Oasis, TLC and Blondie are some of the influences cited by Lisa as she strides confidently towards the charts.

Her new single is already hot in the clubs and is almost guaranteed to be a hit.

Lisa earned herself some success when she teamed up with George Michael last summer to sing a re-mix of Wham's I'm Your Man. She is currently putting the finishing touches to her debut album, set for release in April.

She helped write the 10 songs on the album with her producer Jon Douglas, who has worked with top artists Eternal and Gabrielle to his credit.

But despite the numerous DJ re-mixes of her single, 24-year-old Lisa does not intend to be a new dance diva and prefers to refer to her new album as soul-funk.

"I hit the club scene when I was 16 and I met a lot of influential contacts," she said.

"But I don't spend my life in clubs now. "I draw my influences from other places, which is why I describe this new single as being a pop record as opposed to a dance record.

"I believe that the music industry is changing," she added. "Bands like Oasis and Pulp are writing more about real life and, like them, I am influenced by the things that go on around me."

Lisa launched herself into the music business when she left school at 16, picked up a copy of Melody Maker and auditioned to be a singer in a rock band. After spending a couple of years developing her musical style with Kevin Saunderson of Inner City, she was signed by Go! Discs and has never looked back.

Lisa was recently approached by Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher to sing with him on the track Fade Away, featured on the HELP album, something she says she was "very flattered" to be involved with.

She also makes an appearance in the Black Grape video Kelly's Heroes.

And her hopes for the future?

Lisa dreams of being able to tour as a support act with a big pop celebrity.

"Touring with someone like George Michael would be brilliant," she said.

"If I got that opportunity it would be something I would be very proud of."
