"WE WANT a lot to do a little - and fund-raising to be fun," is the motto adopted by the committees of the SuperScan Appeal.

Blackburn chairman Terry Barber took time out from the last meeting to encourage everyone in East Lancashire to join in the mammoth appeal to raise £1 million for a vital life-saving MRI scanner.

"We are trying to get support from all areas of the community," he said. "It's not just about giving money, we want people to commit their time to sell raffle tickets and badges at the various events throughout the year.

"We want people from the Asian communities to get involved and want firms both large and small not only to give donations but to sponsor sporting events and school competitions that are going to take place in aid of the scanner. "The committee members are all volunteers and are there to give advice and help at any time and are also available for presentations," he added. "Organisations and groups just have to get in touch with us if they want to raise money. The Evening Telegraph is supporting the campaign and can provide people with free advertising and posters for events."

Each area of East Lancashire has its own committee and people wishing to get involved can contact the respective chairmen: Terry Barber (Blackburn) on 01254 202495; Maureen Walker (Hyndburn) 234686; Ian Ashton (Darwen) 01200 442500 or 01254 703666; Mary Barnes (Ribble Valley) 01200 25386; Neil Beecham (Burnley) 01282 692684 or Peter Johnson (Pendle) 01282 863505.
