THE adventures of Lassie are nothing compared to the exploits of Beauty the wandering wonder dog.

Although the 15-year-old poodle cross is partially deaf and blind, he still managed to cross a busy dual-carriageway safely when he went for a walkabout.

The friendly pooch is usually happy with a short stroll around his home in the Roe Lee area of Blackburn.

But he outdid himself when he walked to Rishton - on his own.

Fortunately, he was picked up near the Shepherd's Rest pub by a passing motorist who took him to the Wilpshire Hotel. Luckily, standing at the bar was Blackburn vet Bill Jones, who immediately took a liking to him.

Bill took him to the kennels at the veterinary surgery in Redlam and the hunt for his owner began.

And Beauty was reunited with Mark Cowin after an appeal in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Mark said: "He went missing from the house on Monday and I searched everywhere for him.

"He doesn't usually wander off but I think he lost his bearings when he crossed over Whalley New Road.

"I am really grateful to the motorist who picked him up and the vet for taking him in.

"I have Beauty since he was a pup and he could fit in the palm of my hand when I first got him.

"He is such a friendly dog and a real character. I am so relieved he is back at home safe and sound."
