RESIDENTS who are trying out wheelie bins will be asked by Burnley Council to say what they think about them.

A questionnaire will be distributed to householders asking about the size of the bin, whether it is hygienic, easy to move and whether street litter has improved on collection days.

Coun Margaret Lishman asked for the questionnaire to be tested on a few residents first before being distributed widely. She also asked for a question about where the bin is collected from and if street litter had improved throughout the week.

Coun Wendy Croft called for a question on recycling to be included to ascertain whether residents would agree to having more than one bin and to sort out rubbish that could be recycled.

Coun Philip Walsh said he was concerned that residents in Worsthorne had been told they could put their rubbish out the night before and, if people went out to work, their bin could remain on the street for 24 hours.

He also asked if the council would be liable for any accidents involving bins on the pavements.

An officer said that if the resident had put the bin in the correct place for collection then it was possible the council might be liable.
