MUFFIN caused a minor cat-astrophe at the Clayton household when he became trapped under the floorboards.
The adventurous moggy got stuck after his curiosity got the better of him.
Owner Andrea Clayton, of Atlas Street, Clayton-le-Moors, was bemused when she could hear the cat's constant mewing - but couldn't find him.
Andrea's two daughters Leanne, four and Becky, two, joined the frantic search, without luck.
Eventually the family tracked down the wayward moggy to the underfloor area up the stairs. Andrea said: "He's always been a bit curious and can get into scrapes but hasn't done anything like this before.
"I couldn't work out how he had got underneath the floor or how to get him out so I had to call the fire brigade."
The Accrington firemen raised the floor boards to free the trapped cat and save another of his nine lives.
Andrea added: "He was very hungry, but didn't seem to have any lasting effects."
