NEWS that Germany is expected to increase its order for the Eurofighter has been welcomed.

The Bonn government, one of the four partners in the fighter project on which thousands of UK jobs depend, is hoping to confirm soon it is increasing its order to 180 aircraft.

Both British Aerospace factories in the county will be heavily involved in production work along with hundreds of sub-contractors and suppliers.

"The Samlesbury and Warton factories of British Aerospace provide an expertise that we in Lancashire should all be proud of," said County Coun Derek Lockwood, deputy leader for the Conservative group. "This order will ensure that jobs at these factories are safeguarded and new jobs created."
