A MAN killed by a train on the East Lancashire line at Nelson has been named as 18-year-old Derren Mitchell Tait.

Mr Tait of Messenger Street, Nelson, died instantly when he was hit by the Colne to Blackpool train close to the Lomeshaye Road bridge at 7.40pm on Saturday.

British Transport Police say there are no suspicious circumstances but are trying to establish his movements on or before Saturday.

Mr Tait, who was 6ft 6ins tall, was wearing a distinctive white and blue T-shirt with the words Navy Blue Sailing World Championships, July 27 to August 15, 1958.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 01772 253682. The coroner has been informed about the death.
