FEARS that mental health service provision might be taken out of Burnley's control appear to have been allayed.

Last October, the East Lancashire Health Authority made public its plans to review who holds the contract for Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.

But, at Burnley Health Care NHS Trust board meeting, chief executive David Chew said a joint action plan had been agreed between himself and the ELHA chief executive Richard Crail.

He added that a new consultant psychiatrist, Dr Ian Blake, would be joining the trust in April when Dr Thiru Rajamanickam leaves to take up the clinical director's job at Bury.

In child psychiatry, Mr Chew said the ELHA had agreed funding of £80,000, which would provide a second consultant and additional support from senior medical staff.
