BURNLEY MP Peter Pike has urged the town's NHS Trust to do more to attract anaesthetists.

He is deeply concerned at the shortage of these specialists at Burnley Health Care NHS Trust.

Mr Pike has spoken with trust chairman, Brian Foster, and its chief executive, David Chew, and has promised to take any "positive action" needed to resolve the problem.

He said: "Clearly the priority is to attracted the correctly qualified people to Burnley as soon as possible. The problem is not unique to Burnley.

"The trust has my 100 per cent support in trying to recruit the anaesthetists we need."
