VANDALS have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage at two different trouble spots in Clitheroe.

The public toilets in the castle grounds and the Edisford Road caravan site have both been targeted by mindless vandals.

And councillors and police are appealing to anyone who knows anything about the incidents to come forward.

Coun John McGowan told his colleagues at a full meeting of Ribble Valley Borough Council: "At the castle toilets doors have been kicked in, tiles have been ripped off and the hand dryers have been pulled away from the walls.

"The destruction continues at Edisford where lead piping has been ripped out and the areas where the dustbins are kept have been wrecked. "I don't know what the answer is but it is time that we, as a council, put pressure on the people who know something about these crimes to come forward and hand the offenders over to the police."

Coun Peter Evans, chairman of the planning committee, told the meeting that every effort must be made to continue the rolling programme of repairs and improvements to public toilets throughout the borough despite setbacks like vandalism.
