POLICE hunting armed robbers who ram-raided a security depot and got away with about £1million in cash are hoping a prime time TV slot will help them track down the culprits.

Detectives investigating the raid at Security Express Limited, Stretton Way, Huyton, on Monday, February 26, hope to stage a dramatic reconstruction on the popular BBC programme 'Crimewatch.'

Five masked raiders entered the building after steel security shutters were ploughed down by a flat-back lorry (registration M978 MTU) stolen earlier in St Helens.

One of the robbers was armed with a handgun and two others were carrying shotguns. After threatening staff, they made off with £1million in used notes, escaping in a grey Range Rover (registration H689 LRW), which had been stolen from the Bleeding Wolf public house in Hale, Cheshire, and was later found abandoned at the junction of Cronton Avenue and Halsnead Avenue, Whiston.

Officers have carried out house-to-house inquiries in the Whiston area and have also interviewed people on the industrial estate where the robbery took place, but as yet they have been unable to trace the offenders.

Chief Inspector Bill Morris, said: "There is no doubt that this was a well-planned raid and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen something on the day, or even the days leading up to the robbery, which may help us with our inquiries.

"We have been approached by 'Crimewatch' and have been liaising with them over the last few days and hopefully they will choose this case for one of their featured items on the next show."

Anyone who may be able to help with their can contact the police on 0151 777 6263, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
