IT took 12 firefighters to free a pregnant cow stuck in a brook at Higher Wendshead Farm, Tockholes Road, Darwen.
Leading firefighter Jim Earnshaw of Darwen fire station said: "The cow was extremely distressed and was in danger of aborting.
"The farmer had tried for a while to free the cow but eventually had no choice but to call us."
