THE big guns met in the second semi-final of the Leigh & District Amateur Football League's Davenport Cup. Something had to give - and it did!

Division One table toppers Westleigh Village A hammered joint leaders Royal Oak 6-0.

Steve Bevan sparked the rout with the first of a double, and other goals followed from Peter Baron, John Marsden, Chris Sanderson and Matt Smith.

Both Union A and George VI recorded their first win in the Carl Brown Memorial Trophy.

Matt Toone hit a hat-trick to help Union beat Three Crowns A 7-2. Other goals came via Chris Gallagher 2 and Jamie Hopkins. Crowns replied through Dave Saunders and Peter Shepherd.

George VI beat Punch Bowl 3-2 after going 2-0 down through Simon Turtington and Mark Pendlebury. But George turned the game around with goals from Jason Carey 2 and Dean Lord.

In Division Two Butchers Arms beat neighbours Union Arms B 2-1. Chris Bibby and Barry Beckford scored for Butchers, Gary Newby put past his own keeper for Union's reply.

Top-of-the-table Higher Fold like living dangerously - winning 4-3 for the second straight week. They beat Three Crowns B with goals from Jimmy Eckersley, Steve Connor, Warren Knowles and Phil Rothwell. Crowns replied via Kevin Parker, Warren Higham and Gary MacDonald.

Westleigh B are still one point adrift after a 4-1 win over Church Inn. Jason Lee and Steve Anderton netted two apiece.

Ross's and Pheasant shared the spoils at 3-3. Craig Guest 2 and Craig Carter scored for Ross's, Nigel Arnold, Alan Hall and Stuart Higgins for Pheasant.
