AFTER several years painstaking work on the old records, the old parish registers for Hindley between 1698 and 1814 have just been republished by a former headmaster.
Ken Taylor, who now lives in St Helens, has been transcribing the registers of All Saints in Hindley and Leigh Parish Church for the Lancashire Parish Register Society.
Family historians will now be able to use a single volume in their researching of old baptisms, marriages and burials at All Saints upto 1814, and copies are available for reference at Leigh Library local history section, the Town Hall Archives and Wigan's History Shop.
Ken is now working on the Leigh registers for the 18th century which is an even bigger project and these are expected to be published in about two or three years time.
Converted for the new archive on 14 July 2000. Some images and formatting may have been lost in the conversion.
