TRACEY Neville, a 19-year-old student from Bury, has been selected by the All England Netball Association as part of the England U21 side due to play in the World Youth Cup in Toronto, Canada, from August 11 to 24.

Tracey, whose brothers Gary and Neville play for Manchester United FC, plays at goal-attack or goal-shooter and is a member of the YWCA National League Team. She is currently studying in Bristol.

This is now the under-21 team which England's selectors hope will graduate to win medals at the 1988 Commonwealth Games and 1999 World Championship.

A series of spectator matches nationwide in the next three months have been arranged as part of the squad's preparation for Canada. Sponsored by Nike, and incorporating a variety of National and Regional opposition, these will be part of integrated roadshows, promoting the sport and featuring coaches', umpires' and selection workshops as a repeat of a successful pilot scheme launched prior to last year's World Championship in England.

Their theme this year will be "match-winning" shooters and the skills of observation and analysis.

"There is no doubt that we are one of the best teams in the world at the moment in this age-group and we will be looking for a medal in Canada, preferably the gold," said England under-21 team manager Lucy Faulkner.

The side is coached by Middlesex coach Mary Bearwood.
