THE FATE of three historic town centre buildings will have to wait another two months after the subject failed to make the latest council agenda.
The future of the Grade Two listed Pavilion buildings on Church Street, Blackburn, will not be debated until August at the earliest.
Development services director Alan Peake blamed a burgeoning workload:
"There were more than 50 items to discuss in the development services committee meeting so there really wasn't room. We are still submitting an application for demolition though."
But while the planning office waits to deliver a report outlining their plans, the feeling among councillors is strong.
"I am totally against demolishing these buildings," said Blackburn Conservative leader and committee member, councillor Ian Forrest.
"I will be urging party members to block any demolition application."
If councillors opt for demolition, an application would have to be made to the Department of Environment.
Despite repeated interest in the Pavilions, councillor Eileen Entwistle believes the right buyer must be found.
"We have to make sure buildings are used for the right purpose. However, I would not like to see them demolished," she said.
