ADRIAN Heath is closing in on the two German targets he would like to bring to England with a view to adding more signings to his squad which is now starting to take shape.

It's a similar move to the "loan" deal which has brought Portuguese star Bambo to Turf Moor to enable Heath to monitor the player at first hand and try to push a deal through.

And the Burnley boss believes he is making progress with his latest venture into Europe.

"I am just waiting for more information about when they might be able to come over. Hopefully it will be soon," he said.

"They are both forwards, one is 27 and the other a young player who has been with his country to the Junior World Cup. They have the right sort of pedigree."

Burnley are now starting the build-up to next week's tour of Northern Ireland, which involves several games.

The trip will enable him to take a close look at Bambo in proper match action.

"We have got full clearance for him to play and it is an ideal opportunity to see him," added the manager.

"I am also still working on arranging a pre-season game at Turf Moor. "We had been aiming for top-class opposition on August 10 but the date might have to be varied a little.

"Hopefully, we will be in a position to confirm something very shortly."

As well as continuing to wheel and deal, Heath also has to try to complete some contract negotiations within the club.

And he was reasonably optimistic today that things would develop.

The manager anticipates that Paul Weller could be ready to sign a new contract soon and he will be hoping for progress with the other players who have yet to accept new terms.

With training going well since the players reported back to Gawthorpe, he now wants to get down to some match practice and there will be no shortage of that in Ireland.

Jeremy Goss, a transfer target for Burnley earlier in the summer, has seen his move to First Division Charlton Athletic fall through.

The London club have cancelled the Welsh international's registration by mutual agreement just days after he joined them on a free from Norwich.

Charlton manager Alan Curbishley said: "After the transfer was signed Jeremy told us that he had personal and family problems and it was not considered in the best interests of either party to go ahead with the move."
