ANDREW GRIME'S gold set the tone for Atherton SC as they hit the medal trail at the Warburton Gala.

He won both the 15-Year 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly, Gerald Prescott taking bronze in both events.

Hannah Foster won gold in the 12-Year 100 freestyle and James Gendall was just pipped into second spot in the 11-Year 200 individual medley with Stephen Winstanley fifth.

In the 11-Year 200 IM Amy Jones finished fourth, Cheryl Hall sixth and Rebecca Grime swam a PB. Ryan Grundy (4th) and Holly Davies (5th) swam well in 12-Year 50 breaststroke. Rachael Unsworth swam well for fourth in the 14-Year 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

David Gendall, entering his first gala, swam a PB in the 10-Year 50 backstroke.

In the latest round of the Central Lancashire Junior Swim League Atherton were beaten 65-41 by neighbours Tyldesley.

Hannah Foster was the only Atherton swimmer at the Satellite Open Meet in Macclesfield.

She hit PBs for third in the 12-Year 200 butterfly and fourth in the 100 butterfly - just missing an NQT in both events.

Geoffrey Earle was the solo competitor from the club at the Manchester United Salford Graded Meet.

He took gold in the 11/12-Year 200 IM in a PB and was fourth in the 100 butterfly, fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

He also had fine swims in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke (PB).

Four swimmers from Atherton featured in the 10-Year group at the Top of the World Sprint Meet at Oldham.

Jessica Howarth won the backstroke, then took silver in the freestyle and bronze in the butterfly. She also swam well in the breaststroke.

James Gendall took second in the butterfly, swimming well in his three other strokes.

Geoffrey Earle swam well in his four events, David Gendall swam two (breaststroke and the butterfly).
